Optimism is a mental attitude that is grounded in the belief that any situation will eventually have a positive or favorable outcome. Optimistic people have a knowing that things will get better. When viewing life, optimistic people find the bright side or have a glass half full approach. To overcome any challenging or difficult situation in your life you must have the ability to be hopeful and have confidence that this is a temporary season in your life. According to Winston Churchill, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; but an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” Adopting an optimistic viewpoint has been proven to improve the immune system, prevent chronic disease, and to help people cope with tragic situations. Most situations can not be changed immediately but our perspective on the situation can. We can re-frame the situation and find the lessons and the benefits in all experiences. Our beliefs shape our perception and our perception creates our reality. A belief, simply put, is a thought that we continue to think. Therefore, if we start to think different thoughts, our beliefs will change and ultimately the perception of our lives will change.
